I had a problem with the neighbour's chimney stack on the gaff in France. Water was running down through cracks in the mortar around the steel flue and leaving damp brown (rust) marks on our living room wall. I applied a slurry of cement, water and SBR to the mortar around the flue, then mixed up a bucket of strong mortar with SBR added (ratios as advised on the container) and trowelled it on liberally. Haven't had chance to see if it's fixed the problem yet (Coronavirus stopped play), but I'll be amazed if it hasn't fixed the problem.pva is supposed to be waterproof but it isn't and when wet re emulsifies SBR is totaly water proof and mixed with cement makes the 1st bonding coat on tanked and damp proofing walls then tanking slurry mixed with sbr
