Can you get oxygen on the BOC Volks deal ?

Not on the Volkszone offer, but BOC are doing a special 'Hobby Gas' deal for light users/hobbyists of oxy/acet at a significant saving. There's nothing about it on their website, but a call to the 0800 number might reveal more details.

I just found this post as I'm look to get a mig gas bottle and have discovered a dealer 4 mile from me, and also hobbiegas main office is 4 miles the other way ...... I never realised that there was as much competition around my doors, question is do I still get. £20:back on my deposit for being a forum member as it mentions above ?.... I think your dealer is easier and so your winning so far. I email them (Ashington) and am waiting for their prices see if they match the online ones

Just a bit of interest,

Phoned a local supplier Central Autos, who claim they are now owned by motor parts direct to get a quote for a 20l oxy cylinder. Price quoted was £85 for the gas and £ 123 for the deposit. Naturally I asked why such a huge variation in price and was given the storey that the cannot even buy it themselves for that cost.

So, phoned another local supplier (only one retail shop) and was quoted £61.94 for gas and £60 deposit !.. Interesting this as this supplier was only 4 miles away so wouldn't expect huge variation in deliver costs.

So next I spoke with SGS directly and learn that gas is sold at a standard cost and it's up to the individual retailers to set retail prices!!!!

After 15 mins of research today it looks like the welding gas retail supply market is run by masked robbing highway men out to screw the hobbyists and professionals alike.

I think it's high time we all get together and see if we can negotiate a deal or as a minimum get a basic and sensible pricing structure in place

We used to buy traceable calibration gases with UKAS certification for our emissions analysers

Only a few companies did the specialist mixes. They charged whatever they wanted. £1000’s per small bottle

mate who now runs a fair size outfit has lost his rag with gas supplyers a few times last time round there gas got very expensive all of a sudden for some reason or other, after enquireing why he was bascily told well thats the price not like your going to get it off anyone else.... so he bought an air seporator hell of unit for a serious amount of coin, coupe of weeks later a rep calls round to find out why there not buying gas as you chould imagine they just pointed at the air seporator only for the rep to come back a week later with some radically diffrent prices that made runing the separator uneconomic
