Nivomats are proper money to buy.
You might have been better off - washing the oil off them before you took the car for a test!
Easy to say after the fact
There's a thought...
We'll see what French MOT man says Friday...

I have a soft spot for old Audis, quattro gear boxes aside I don't think they are too complicated the BMW E61 I have now makes the Audi B4 quattro coupe I had twenty years ago look like child's play. It was comparatively easy to see what everything does, yes a bit daunting after a string of BL A series and Ford Kent motors but you have your head around the FWD Audi so should not be a problem.
And yes as you say the Quattro drivetrains look a bit tricky.
Hum good point about spares availability or lack of it, that is one good thing with BMW they have great support for the older cars. For amusement one quite day I went back in the BMW on line parts catalogue looking for the oldest car I could find any parts listed, it was a 1950's bubble car, admittedly only three or four engine parts were listed as available for it but I was impressed. Please do not encourage me to buy it
The spheres are £250 + per corner, the pipes, sensors, valves etc seem to be unavailable, it's like a German version of the Citroen green sphere suspension I think. I had a '73 CX , no problems at all.
The difference is there are lots of Citroen specialists, owners clubs, all parts on the shelf, but almost nothing for old Audis in comparison.

Not sure how strict they are for "CT" testing in France. Fairly stict I would guess as testing is every two years?
I don't really get the French rules for MOT testing - floating tests 6months around car sales - emissions testing every year for commercial vehicles - it seems too complicated for me.
day to day the test requirements are pretty much the same, technically they test the same things as we do, same basis, same advisories, etc, no real difference in the actual test itself. Aye, valid for 2 years instead of 1 with the pollution check but only if it's registered as a commercial or company vehicle, test takes 5 minutes, but is still 35 euros....
The car sales thing is if the test is more than 6 months old, you automatically have to retest prior to selling / buying, which is a pretty decent idea if your the buyer, at least you know what you've got on that day, no more value than anything else really.....other than that, nothing really different from the uk..
