thanks pete,heres a few roots 6013 vodex, these are the closest i have come to a cel rod in 13,it burns and looks very similar, it just dosn,t have the punch.f/j

Very nice job F/J.

What absolutely baffles me is how you manage to weld such a wide bead without getting slag inclusions.
Welding Artisan warned me to be careful when weaving and I do get lots of slag inclusion if I weave more than a couple of mm wide

Maybe you need a few more amps Dutchman, you should be able to weave without slag inclusions. Remember to not take to far step up when you are weaving up. Not sure how to explain without making a drawing but if you imagine a Ladder, and each step of the ladder is left to right weave, then the space in-between the weaves (or ladder step) should be very small, infact half of the arc should be going back over the weave just made and the other half should be on the pipe..........understand?? :-)

I am not 100% sure of the number but officially you shouldn't weave wider than 3 times (I think) the size of the rod (8mm weave with a 2.5mm rod), although I know that its possible to do more in reality.

Yeah, I read something like that too, but this bead looks like it is an inch wide and I think F/J uses a 2.5mm rod, which makes the bead 10 times wider than the rod
I wish I could strech the instructions like that!

I’ve always heard that too! I think it is more or less a rule of thumb, not a hard fast rule.

matt, puddles i appreciate you taking the time to look and comment.dutchman you also thanks,as matt said it really is only an amp problem with you,i know from another forum in the states that my style of welding would never be acceptable in the nuclear industry.this really dosn,t affect me, in my world it seems to be perfectly acceptable,though it may be worth taking into consideration for some of you.that said i have never had a weld knocked back for this reason though i have heard something similar to yourselves. just to clear something dutchman i actually use 3.25 and 4mm to cap 2.5 i have used but its a long way roundheres a few more pics f,j

F/J really am impressed Wish I was a lot better at stick. Been hard to motivate myself to practice more withe th MIG so easy.

Been reading with interest on tips/procedures. Nice to see the slag look horrid on some of the verticals and overhead. Of course it falls off and reveals a perfect weld That has distracted me, I see the slag creating odd blobs and think I'm doing something wrong and change something and screw up. Been forcing myself to just watch the weld pool (insert Star Wars "Stay on target" clip here)

I was over your way few weeks back, we have a dealer in Lisburn and we just set up Jamison and Green in Belfast.

I first visited Jameson and Green in March, they have some right gear in there.........lots of proper Engineering tools....some of which I didn't even know they sold or were even made anymore.

They have just become a sub distributor of our main dealer in Lisburn, so I will have to go over and do some product training in May or June.

We got some new MMA inverters coming out, when they are launched I will get either Jameson and Green or our guy in Lisburn to drop one into you and you can evaluate them for me....please
