On page 2, post #31 of this thread, there is a chart which shows it as being a saw makers anvil. Most likely a desirable collectors item.

No but great spot. I’ll ask. It’s got some history but suspect it’s been sitting in that shed for a fair chunk of decades.

I seem to remember someone saying they're are caused by the blacksmith checking the sharpness/hardness of cold chisels he's drawn out, hammer sharpened and tempered, it's just a convenient place.

My old man always took his chisels the the blacksmith for sharpening and hated his workers sharpening them on a grindstone, reckoned they lasted much longer when forged.
