Once it's all cleaned up I'll reassemble it and see if it needs it, if it does I'll make a steel one.

The jaws are attached with a locating stub as well as screws, these really are a well made vice.

Rust and paint seem to be coming off quite well so far, looks like it had a sort of duck egg blue primer covered by a really thick black paint.

They are quite rare, the one in that advert is the 4th one I have heard of so there are a few out there. There's some smaller weaker ones as well by Noveto

Ditto man. I'm trying to not look at anything Fife way - just so much nice stuff. Lovely zzr400 engine and box that is just screaming at me to get it and build something.

Little update on the Wilson vice.
Jaw has cleaned up quite well, you can still see the original machining marks. The rest has been given a light wire wheeling after it got removed from the tank, the rest of the vice is in there now.

Still need to clean the bolt holes out ..... and decide how to remove the pins holding the main spindle in. Oh well, getting there slowly.

Not seen a No41 before, what dimensions does it have? Looks similar to an 84.

18" from nose to tail and about 9" tall mate with 4 1/2" jaws. paramo steel, made in England.

cost me £40 about 12 years ago and has done me proud.

Nice Sounds like it is the Paramo equivalent of the Record 84. I'm sure it'll last longer than us lot

its craig and rose machine enamel matt and is a greenish blue colour very similar to the old co op colour if you remember that, got 5ltrs for nowt.

Best price too. Not heard of that brand before. What's the drying time like with that one?

like you matt, I hate seeing vices that have had a poor paint job and then advertised as restored, its almost like they throw the paint over them.
