Nice. How do you get on with the Toolpost?
Is that a multifix toolpost or a copy? looks nice!
At the moment all efforts stopped whilst I look out for some straight-edge tools for spotting/alignment. Seem to be very hard to come by.
I have both carbide tipped and HSS scrapers, the carbide ones are much better.
I have a B with a few holders, the boring bar holders and the swing in threading attachment with micrometer adjust. The only bad thing about the entire setup is that extra toolholders are expensive or a pain to make yourself.I find it a vast improvement over the standard 4 way post, it also allows for the use of 16mm height tipped lathe tools on a L5.
I looked into the L2 and piston type tool posts, the main problem being that on the L5 (not a problem on the L5A) you have to replace the tool post centre bolt for a longer one, which requires stripping the top slide of the lathe.
With the multifix type post due to the overall lower height, you only have to make a spacing bush (40mm high x 20mm o/d x 1/2" bore) and buy a 1/2" whit nylon nut to fit the tool post stud, about 15 minutes work to fit the new post assembly including making the spacer.
The tool post kit (40 position tool post, boring bar holder and 3 standard holders) cost me 260-00 GBP including shipping from the USA. Considering the price its fair to say its probably a copy, but its very well made, doesn't move or chatter at all and is easy to use.
This tool post covers a 6 to 13 inch swing lathe so wouldn't be sold with this lathe if I ever decided to upgrade it, so future proofing my purchase.
The tool holders supplied in the kit will hold up to 20mm height tools, until I buy some more index tooling I'm using my cheap Chronos 1/2 inch tooling...
That'll make the lights flicker

I'll set up some tooling to grind the splines for one sooner or later though.
The chinese ones are good, but the original swiss ones are hardened and ground on the splines so stand up to a beating better. It says on the toolholder "multifix" if its a genuine.
Blimey, I am a little embarrassed to post a picture of my little amdeal mini lathe!!
I am very much a newbie to using a lathe but it does all the little jobs I want to do like motorcycle parts which look nice and seem to fit just fine!!!
It also fits on my workbench just fine!!
How much did you pay for that one??this is my 5" Raglan lathe
not really done anything with it at the moment, but the plan is to give it a strip down clean and repaint. I've just made some feet for it so its sat least sat level on the floor now rather than rocking back and forth as it had done previoulsy
I carn't claim as mine as there works but never mindView attachment 27557
