o ya rang donnellly 900 sterling plus vat today. so €1100 plus vat, and cant claim vat back. so taking my time out we bearly broke even. he couldnt possibly be putting medium gauge steel in at that money?? cud he? only prob is would have to pull the trailer up to tyrone to get it done

we had a similar discussion today on 30 yard skip units, £2K ish, I couldn't even buy the material for that, some of the production made stuff is down to the nail...

he obviosly has a jig for his kribs, were as i have to cut the bloody thing. would he be mig welding them??? material pricing on page 2 if any of ye missed it

right 5 sheets of box cladding 14` long, 4 sheets of <> weldmesh 8`by4` and 10 lenghts of medium gauge 2" box 1 lenght of inner sleeve box and 3 lengths of 2" angle came to €870. 100 EURO FOR PAINT 50 FOR WELDING RODS. 100 MICELLIOUCES, NUTS BOLTS DISCKS TEXS ETC. used medium gauge as light gauge means fanny tittling with 2.5mm rods

it was expensive material over €1100 in all. you were paying vat on your steel and can't claim it back I get most of my steel without having to pay vat which is a big help

is that 30 skip for two grand snowcat surely that can't be right

If it a production shop, they will defiantly use m.i.g , it would be more than strong enough but much faster .

We've looked at lots of fabricated items - trying to work out if it is worth making in house to get a decent profit out of it

yes thats right £300 extra for a different door cant remember whats standard split or tipping, were looking at bins for these hook loaders once there built, £600 for a S/H shagged out no floor bent ribs etc, or 2K for a new en, doesn't take long to work that out

As Paul said havent a clue how some of these boys make this stuff for the money......

I suppose a lot of places are nearly doing work at cost so as not to have to let go workers
I was in a local fabricating shop last month and the owner was telling me this time last year he had 8 guys work for him they were now down to two and was making bale carriers and trailers and leaving them on the side of the road with for sale signs on them trying to drum up some business from local farmers so that he wouldn't have let them go

We have a skip manufacturer on a farm near here - he only makes them during the winter months and stockpiles them. In the summer he opens the farm for holidaymakers and caravans because there's more money in that.
We have some pretty good facilities here, but we can't match his prices for skips (we make hookloaders by the way).
