Silent compressors

I'm sure i am going to make myself look and sound really stupid here but here goes anyway.What makes a silent compressor so quiet?I have got a small clarke tiger compressor which is as noisy as hell.I am starting airbrushing so could do with something very much easier on the ear,can i change any parts on my comp to make it a silent running one?

The silencer that they've equiped those compressors with, it is no good at all. I designed a new one for my compressor and here are the results. The quality of the vid, it's terrible. My apologies.

those direct drive machines are always noisey
belt driven are much quieter

Finally ive got it all working!! and working very well!!!!!

Im going to start a new thread for it, got loads of photos of the build (and my dodgy welding!!) some facts and figures also..

Will post it up later on when I get chance to write it all up

My setup using ordinary fridge compressors lasted about 5 years. They packed up due to the klixon cutout failing and me forgetting to top the oil up!

I understand fridge compressor can easily attain 200 psi.
