sill repairs on my disco

hi all, started doing my sills on my disco today and will be using my arc welder to do it. when i cut out some of the old sills i tested it to see if i could use my arc instead of my mig, and yes it should be fine, i put it on the lowest settings using 1.6 rods. ill be posting some pics up during he weekend for you guys to comment on.

i was looking to put some rock sliders on, i dont know if you can have both? thanks for the reply,do you have any more pics on your restoration of your sills? just fancy a look.

i was gutted when i took the trim off, then siad why did i do that. i want to ask your advice, shall i cut out the underneath of the sill as well? it has not rotten through yet but im thinking a head of my self? cheers

The job looks like a good un .

you've obviosly spent a bit of time getting your reapair peices right, but you'd make the job much easier for yourself if you cleaned the galvo off.

Try to get back to clean steel wherever you can - not always easy i know, but like everything - preparation is key to a good job.

the galv seems to have like a sheet or coat on it, like plastic. is it a shield of some sort to stop corrosion? cheers

na. ill just cut it off with the angle grinder.

get some webbing a make a net door will save weight and reduce kid wining as you wont be able to hear!

FM, sorry to be critical but the bottom edge of that repair doesn't look too good at all, the welds are very hit and miss and just don't look very strong. They look like they are just sat on the surface and not actually penetrated into the parent metal.

The type of repair you've made requires a continuous weld along all edges as it's not 'as per original'.
