FM, sorry to be critical but the bottom edge of that repair doesn't look too good at all, the welds are very hit and miss and just don't look very strong. They look like they are just sat on the surface and not actually penetrated into the parent metal.

The type of repair you've made requires a continuous weld along all edges as it's not 'as per original'.

thanks for the advice, i have nt finished the bottom edge yet as i ran out of rods. over head is not my strong point either.

Ah, I see! Just thought I'd mention it
Just be careful with that bottom edge, make sure it's properly penetrated into the parent metal as the edge of the patch will want to sort of 'suck' the weld toward it.
