I would prefer not to, KISS and all but it looks like I might have to
as it will be used by rumbustious children. I will see what the model
looks like if I bend the main circle forward a bit. At least I will have
an idea for the angles.
If I do put a tail, it will be small and as discrete as possible but still
be circular in shape.
Regards tail.
Small and discrete or make a feature of it?
I often find if I have to add a feature like this if I make it look important, a feature; people see it as part of the plan.
I am not sure about this as the tail will make it bigger but also more stable.
I will see what I can get away with. I suspect I will decide this when I have
made the main circle and see where the CofG really is on the finished product...
I would prefer not to have to make this tail as it complicates the thing slightly...
If you made it part of the design I think it'd be fine. On that model you made you'd could make the tail another half circle at 45 degrees from vertical with the 2 ends on the floor. Neat enough I'd have thought.
Hi Dev,
Wow, is that from sketchup? Anyhow, in the second one I had thought to bring the end of the small
back support circle more forward, mainly for aesthetic reasons. It would make more of a sphere shape.
I thought the tail that was talked about would be vertical from the main circle out towards the back to stop the whole thing from flipping backwards.
Any idea what size square tubing I need to look for? I an looking to hold 200Kg on the end of the main circle, it is overkill but better safe than sorry. I have 1" square but think that it might not be strong enough to hold that weight on the end.
Thanks for the cool photos, I will print then out and use them in my calculations if you dont mind...
K.
Nah go ahead that's what they're for. 2 minutes in Sketchup. Size of tubing? Haven't a clue but certainly the commercial ones you see don't seem all that heavy so maybe not as big as you think?
cheers, 2 minutes for you but I tried and took to pen and paper after a lot longer than that.
I took a look at tubular pipe ones in a garden center and it looked like about 1" pipe....
I might go with something a bit more just to be on the safe side, I would not want it blowing away...
=)
Hi Richi b,
Sure not problem at all, I would not be where I would be where I am with this if it was not for the
input of others here on this forum.
If you do build this I would be interested in info / photos..
=)
