SIP 130 wire-feed power supply - alternative approach

Where are the cuts made on the board please.or is it just remove the connection to the motor +.
Im confused looking at the schem. It shows 2x cuts.

Also am I right that only 2 out the 5 contacts on the relay are used. Leaving pins 1,3 and 4 unconnected.
Pin 5 connected to the green wire and pin 2 is connected to the yellow which is directly soldered to the rear of the board.

I had to register just to thank all the contributors to this forum.
I've a SIP migmate 150 turbo that I've had for about 12 years and it's never been that good.

Result is that the welder is totally transformed - it now welds really nice, welding is a joy rather than a chore.
If anyone else has got one of these welders and thinks it's a bit iffy on the wire feed - do the mods, cannot recommend them highly enough.

thats brilliant - i recomend to people looking for a welded to read this forum then look for a "its stopped welding " sip for pocket change then do the mods they can be quite nice little welders when you get the hang of them i wouldn't change mine for anything ( well any other "Hobby" welder that i could just about afford/justify)

I have all the bits to do this mod.

So far I have a SIP Migmate 150DP Turbo.

Mods done.
Curtain liner
Brace.
Grease the welding spindle.

Still to do the power supply mod I have all the bits to do the hobbymecatronics
Even have a spare 12 v relay.

So guys is it just take off the motor wire and hook up the laptop PSU.
Then the two wires get soldered to the relay.
Just need confirmation till I go ahead.

why a curtain wire? - its for hanging curtains
I had a look at some it was too soft and let the torch lead bend too tight and caused wire drag a clarke one fits and is about a £10er also if its been dragging rusty wire through the plastic liner replace the liner inside the swan neck too - it fills with plastic dust which melts and acts as hot melt glue

you can fit the transformer by piggy backing the cables in to the lucar terminals in the machine

All wired up, as soon as I viewed it on the pc instead of my iPhone and had the unit and additional components to hand, it makes a very neat modification.
It's a shame the original manufacturer in china didn't think about adding a seperate transformer as over there it would cost an additional 5.00-10.00 usd.

Yet to power up as I chucked most of my old console stuff inc a needed figure 8 lead for the dell transformer. :-(

I can wait and plan my next mod a built in large bottle gas connector on the rear of the unit would look better than a 4mm tube.

Then learn how to use it:-)

Works first time, I sure the dell transformer is not pushing enough amps as its still makes a ill high low sound from the motor, overall I'm very impressed.
I've tidied the wiring up a lot and it looks OEM.

Now on the look out for 4-5amp transformer.
I have a transformer and rectifier but that's a bit more mess re wires etc, I prefer neat and tidy, easy to sort if and when a problem develops.

The wire is not seated correctly in the groove of the roller maybe liner is a ill kinked don't look it but you never know.

There are a couple of versions of that power supply that you are using. The smaller 65W one is for the Dell 620/630 Laptops (and others too probably), and there is a 90W version that will also fit the laptop, but was originally intended for the Dell docking Stations. They look very similar, but the more powerful one is slightly larger in size.

Specs as follows:

65W - 19.5V Output, 3.34A​

90W - 19.5V Output, 4.62A​

If yours is the smaller one, then maybe it's too small. Let me know if you need the larger one, as I can 'obtain' one from work!

I'm using a dell AD-4022 24vdc 1.8amp though.
Don't know re wattage without looking but googling its coming up 45w

Got a small bottle 9ltr of Adams Gas 5% Argon from Fossegas, great chap collected 20.00 Friday. He is located near Leicester.
So nearly ready just gotta get wire, nozzles, reg and 6mm id braided hose c clips and then I'm gas mig welding. Can't wait.

After finding out on here that the wire from screw fix is crap, it will be cancelled when I collect it on weds

Ordered Lincoln wire some 0.6mm tips.
Got reg and flow meter, 4mm converter, steel liner.

Next will be better earth clamp

Just tried to lay down a few welds and it's a massive improvement sounds smooth.
I think I need to change the wire speed pot to make the speed slower.

I'm still using gassless flux weld ability wire. 0.8mm
1.4mm plate
Was better on power 4 or 5 I know too high but the sound was sweet bacon
Dropping to power 2 or 3 I need to drop the wire feed to 0 to lay semi decent seems.
Pulling was better than pushing, I felt in more control pushing into the pool
