SIP Air compressor and a 20 Gallon sand blaster DOESNT blast :(

I have a SIP Air compressor and a 20 Gallon sand blaster bought from different sellers, the specs are below



The compressor looks well and seems to run very well and the dials go up

But the sand blaster which is empty of sand and all the valves are open



The problem is on the sand blaster I hear all the air coming out of the dial valve at the bottom of it, its hissing out and the tank doesn’t seem to fill? And the sand blaster nozzle doesn’t have any air coming out of it?



Does anyone have any idea what im doing wrong? I contacted the sand blaster guy he said: I need at least 14CFM and 200l Compressor! But I emailed someone else selling the same 20 gallon model he said: my existing compressor will be fine!

What is up any help is appreciated!

As I cant afford to buy a new 230v 14CFM 200L air compressor and not many of this spec on ebay used!

Assuming there are no faults:
Turn all the valves off
Get the compressor upto full pressure
Open the valve at the nozzle fully
Open the valve at the side fully
Open the top valve fully
At this point you should get air coming out of the nozzle
Open the bottom valve slowly until media starts to appear at the nozzle, the stream should be just visible. It can take 10 secs for the media stream to react to adjustments on the bottom valve.

The orange pipe between your compressor and the blaster looks a bit on the slim side.

as above that hose and set up is crap. u need to take air supply direct of tank. take the plug out on end of tank fit a reducer to a half inch bsp and fit a bayonet connector and use minimum of 10mm bore hose to pot. I use 15 mm on mine

Thanks for all your replys, Brightspark im a rookie so not sure what that means? used Google though i have a lot of plumbers parts in my shed, the orange pipe came off and old mini compressor lol, rtbcomp will try this on saturday, cheers maybe send a video to youtube also and will take a photo of the Leak area tomorrow , thanks

your orange pipe only has an 5-8mm flow rate you need a better flow rate pipe

also it looks like your on the side thats is controlled instead of using the pcl socket on the tank so what bar pressure are you using on the dial ?

That looks like the same setup I have. It should work ok although mine needs a bit of fine tuning. Should be ok for blasting small to medium parts without to much waiting around.
That hose is too small so see if you can get an 8 or 10mm hose for it.
If the pot or one of the valves is leaking it won't build enough pressure.
I had to take every fitting off my pot when I got it and reseal them all with ptfe tape.
Don't over tighten the fittings or they could crack, just nip them up.
I think if you open the valves in the wrong sequence it can ram the media hard into the pipework and it'll jam up.
Media needs to be bone dry, you might have to kick the pot and hose to loosen things up.

hi take the air supply from the end of your tank . use a larger bore hose instead of that thin orange line. fit a new water separator on your pot as its leaking air preferably a half inch bsp one and u should be about there that regulator on your comp doesnt look like its doing a lot

It looks like the connector on the pot and the one on the hose are slightly different types.

Definitely fit a larger bore hose and take the air from the end of the tank before changing the separator.

I will get a new pipe from compressor to Tank but wondered why the air all comes out below the valve in the tank as seen in my video?

Its all so confusing, I guess i will buy a better bigger hose first of all

Does everyone think the compressor specs are suitable for my sand blasting pot ????

Its just new parts i need?

that comp will do the job. obviously a bigger one would be better but where do u draw the line

If you mean the air that comes out where you place your finger on the thing at the top of the pot, that's the separator I mentioned in post #12.

Once the compressor's up to pressure and with all the valves closed, open the air inlet valve and see if you can block the airflow with your finger. If you can then move your finger away and the air should stay stopped. There is a drain valve in the bottom of the separator kept closed by air pressure.

It should stop by itself, but if the hose is constricting the flow pressure won't build up in the first place to close the valve.

Mines exactly the same, the separator leaks air. I just tap it with my finger and it seals up.
