I must say you are getting those Fincords cheap, most places charge around what they quote on the link I posted. Around £50 a 5Kg box, posted.
When you mention your BOC visit, were those Murex rods you saw? They were always a decent rod, don't know if they get them made elsewhere now, though. They always had a good rep.

The only murex I saw was vodex, and i saw esab, but these were stainless rods.

BOC branded rods are sourced from any ware, years ago there everyday range was a Lincoln and was a brilliant rod, ran wheelbarrows full of the things, overnight they changed suppliers and they were horrible and I haven't ran a BOC Rod since.

BTW BOC have list prices by all there products, discounts are discretionary and are often huge I have some set a 70% off list, worth talking to the branch manager.

I try and stear clear of BOC gear unless it is an emergency, even with discount their prices are way higher than other welding suppliers. Agreed their Everyday rods are poor.
Not sure who's wire it is, but their Everyday wire is ok to use.

Thanks for the useful info, I shall steer clear of their electrodes. Was looking at their 40 grit flap disks 4.5 inch they were £4.30 including VAT, they looked ok, but as soon as I saw weldequips flap disk prices, I realised BOC nearly ripped me off phew!

Well thats a shame, for being able to find such a great rod, have trust in it, and one day have the company change their sources 70% off eh? If their rods aren't any good, then I nor any other respectful welder would use them even if they were free

It's all a matter of how you look at it - I'm sure I saw flap discs being sold singly in B & Q for somewhere between £12 & £15, only a few months ago!
Almost makes the BOC ones seem under-priced!

Oh yes! I remember when I first went to purchase an angle grinder from there, (B&Q) I picked up a small bosch flap wheel and promptly put it down when i realised it was on the wrong price peg....£15! It was on a grinding disk peg displaying a £1.99 price....I just bought the grinder along with a £1.99 cutting disk, paid and left promptly, remembering on the way home that theres a stash of grinding disks in my work somewhere... hehehe!

One of the advantages of a forum such as this is that word gets about quickly about things like BOC rods being cheap and good and suddenly turning to cheap and nasty as they source them from somewhere else, so less are going to make the mistake.

5Kg of rubbish rods for a tenner is really worse than a tenner lost. You don't feel like throwing them away and you don't want to use them. It's a tenner which could have been put towards something some good.

I quite often get a phone call when there clearing out on stock take, a couple of months back I got some water proof fleeces that were retailing at £25 on ebay, they sold them to me for £2 a fleece if I bought the lot, got quite a few bits like that ear defenders, sanding discs all sorts, I normally split the stuff with a few people..

like everything tho isn't it you have to shop around, do allot of trade with Cromwell's, but there pricey on welding consumables... Mind Id rather pay double than have a Wurth rep back on the place.

Wurth stuff is good, but soo expensive! Their car intake cleaner is so strong, after use it makes the tips of your dirty old spark plugs look clean!!
