Thats how i bent mine.. used a tungsten with a rounded end to spread the heat.I don't have a gas torch to get a file hot enough to bend it to shape. Is it practical to use a Tig torch to do it?

You need gas or the tungsten will just oxidise and disintegrate, as will lthe surface of whatever you are heating, keep a fairly open arc gap and use the arc like a flame, keep it moving so that you don't melt the material you are heating.Did you need to use any shielding gas to achieve this as it sounds like a very useful idea?
