Small domestic radiator as cooler ?

Copper plumbing pipe is fine, can you get 15/22mm Kunifer pipe? You'll need to use 2000 psi to get any useful amount of air through brake pipe.

My standard water traps work fine for blasting, although I do have to empty them frequently on warm humid days.

i have spare air capacity so just leave the drain off slightly open and it ejects whats ever in there without looking

I plan on plumbing in an airline system in my household garage and carport. Not sure yet what pipework to use(probably galv' 3/4") but am thinking that a cooler is worth incorporating. Rather than having loops of pipe as a cooler what about simply adding a new small domestic radiator ?
They are cheap (under £20 for a basic type) and tested to 13 bar.

What are peoples thoughts on this idea ?

For most rads design pressure is 2 to 3 bar, ... test is 8 bar

Not sure about this but I believe radiators rely on internal convection currents to operate efficiently i.e. Hot water rises to the top and sinks as it cools. I think this probably means they make best use of their surface area. Not sure that would happen with air. Also domestic central heating systems have corrosion inhibitor added to them to stop them rusting. A radiator with no inhibitor and damp air flowing through it would probably rot out fairly quickly. Bear in mind that the safe working pressure is for a sound radiator rather than a rotten one! I'd be tempted to use pipe. It would probably give you a more efficient set up even with less surface area.

It would have to be stainless, but stainless has poor thermal transfer properties. Making a condenser from copper isn't mega money and is the best choice of material for the job. 30 seconds thought is about all this idea is worth

Why stainless, an air receiver isn't stainless.

You would need to flow across opposite corners and therewith still be some water left in the bottom as the holes are not at the lowest points usually. I think is not really viable but was worthy of consideration or was that condensation

ive just dumped 3 myson convector heaters fan asisted they would work fine and take the pressure no problem

a domestic radiator is designed to be used for fluids and tested hydraulically, they will never have been tested with air and if one let go with 120psi in I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it

No way in hell I'd use a flat domestic rad for airline cooling. Volume too high and surface area too low for starters but the main reason is as cited above the failure mode for that sort of shape would be really catastrophic.

You could use something designed for heating, in reverse, its heat exchanging either way . The copper coils used for heating water in home heating systems, where the hot water is pumped through a coil in the water cylinder in your airing cupboard. If you were to plumb one of these coils into the outlet of your compressor and submerge it in water, something like an old gas bottle, it would cool very effectively.

u mean an indirect cylinder. the heating coil inside the tank is a coil of 22mm copper pipe then u would have to fill the tank with cold water it would work but would be bulky. would u realy need to

Yeah i think its overkill, but wouldn't cost much to make and zero to maintain.
