I just think its an unnecessary risk, everything you have done to this car has been absolutely spot on, couldn't fault a thing, but the fuel pump next to your knackers! You have a cage king kong couldn't break and all manner of top shelf safety widgets to keep you above ground God forbid the worst happened, but the fuel pump next to you is a significant hazard. Fitting them under a cover would at least give you some separation and protect your ass from spraying fuel. I have had my fair share of proper scary moments and you can never have enough safety

i do appreciate what your saying though.. i am looking at an internal collector with trap doors and then mount the bosch 044 in to the of the tank, and do away with the facet lifter and swirl pot...

it`d save weight.. and reduce risk.. but those anodised fittings do look soooo sexy on show!! hahahaha

Right.. found a company in the US and A doing a complete drop in collector with check valves or very nice trap door type check valves individually.. if there happy to ship to UK i'll look into it some more...

i know a few motorsport types frown on running rod ends in the outboard positions but in my defence it was good enough for the works MAXIs back in the day so it`ll be good enough for me!!

besides i`m not running big power... or rallying... or running slicks... and how much stick can wishbones get being loaded onto and off trailers to shows???? hahaha

as you know i`ve already nailed the rear mounts with spherical bearings (well i drew them... Spank did the CNC buisness!!)

so after a lovely donation of an old wishbone from Ed i set about taking some measurements and drawing up the definate points in CAD (hub position/rear mount position/front pivot point) from these points i can set out fixing holes on the jig (10mm plate) to have that laser cut:

once that was done i can get all the angles/lengths of intersections of the tubes (i`ve develeped each 1 of these and made paper "wraps" to put round the tube to aid profiling):

and the last bit was to draw up a stub that`ll be machined in EN3 to fit into the rear mounts:

and thats as far as i am at the minute.... the drawing for the jig has been emailed to a good friend of mine who runs the laser cutter at a previous employer and he`s gonna chop it out for me for FREE!! bless him....

it has been a while since i updated this but a few things have been updated!!

the bias pedal box has been plumbed and fitted:

a few freinds and I arranged a rolling road day and i took along my girlfriends clio:

which ended up making some nice numbers:

with the car going away soon to be wired i had to finish the fuel system so i got a new fuel rail + regulator + housing from a UK company : SBD

which fitted superbly:

finally with the car going away i had to move it... this was quite special as it has sat in the same spot for 3 years now.. but at last!! i can see the concrete again!!

well, a LOT of biking on a poxy BMX saw 14miles clocked up, a saw crotch, and some fuel lines... so thats ok..

and i think i spotted 1 in James clio recently built by the TDF crew...

wide angle rear veiw mirror!!

i ordered just the mirror off Ebay (ram motorsport iirc) and got a phonecall monday morning....

"sorry mate, the longacre mirror is out of stock, however we have the Joes racing version WITH brackets... i`ll send that instead"....

so i now have some trick brackets which i dont think i can use as my roof bar sits hard against the shell.. i think some dremel action may create clearance if not, i`ll weld some tabs onto the shell and mount it off them, and use the trick little mirror brackets for something else...

got a couple of cool ideas if they become spare but lets see how things pan out...........

the cars still over @ TDF.. unfortunatly Matt has a massive customer base (well, he`s good, what do you expect) and those customers have WAY more money than me so like i`ve said before they get his services before i do..

all the deutsch autosport connectors have been "acquired" i dread to think how much is there, easily over £1500 just for those.. thankfully my patience and and doing a lot of welding jobs should have them for a LOT less...

engine loom starts this week i think, unless Thorney motorsport get back in touch with him and actually pay him for BTCC support, however, they **** themselves when he said how much he charges.. lol....

some 295mm alcon discs have been sourced, and i`ve designed some bells and carriiers for my AP calipers.. obvioulsy they wont fit so i`ll have to do another set hahahaha but progress is progress...

i`m pleased at least 1 person enjoys my ramblings.....

as for progress, well there isn`t much to tell you all i`m affraid...

its still over at TDF and Matt is flat out with actual real customers paying actual real money, so they go first. (b@st@rds!! lol)

as a little side project i`ve been pottering away with the front brakes,

as you know i have a pair of brand new AP 2 pots:

so to grace these lovely calipers i needed some quality discs:

gone for some ALCON beasts (295/25.4mm thick) not cheap, in fact, damn expensive!! however TDF matt has helped out once again and without wishing to divulge what i am paying, Demonic Tweekage must be laughing there nuts off everytime they sell them @ over £200 a piece!!

so i was left with the task of designing a suitable bell to mount them!!

taking a bit of inspriation from James`s?? james`?? jameseses?? er.. taking inspiration from the clio race car that belongs to James i helped do some welding on:

at the minute this is the current design:

might simplify it a bit and do away with the 12 fixing hole pockets...

depends what quotes i get...

before going ahead and issueing a drawing for machining i got my local laser cutters to chop a prototype out for me:

with the offset/disc thickness the distance between the bottom ball joint and the inside face of the disc should stay about the same, and i can then design a mount for the caliper..

with the missus due to pop out out first sprog early november time my time/money/efforts have been concentrated on turning this:

and working my **** off to afford this!:

anyhow, things seem to have gotten to a point now where other than a couple of items, its now a waiting game and the "boy" front.. so i set about rounding up all the bits needed to get the car driving once Matts done the looms..

so the list:

find paddle clutch + cover - EASY! in a box in the workshop....
clutch release bearing - EASY! went and bought a new LUK item...
clutch to flywheel bolts - ahhhhh things got tricky, pug no longer sell them so after a frantic search in every box i eventually found them!!

what else....

ahhh yes the wierd L shaped bolts that hold the bearing in the intermediate carrier behind the block and the nuts for them...

these remain AWOL in the workshop so had to buy new ones, and being pug they had minimum quantities so i now have 4 bolts and a bag of 10 M7 nuts.....


but at least i have everything!!!!!



as for progress over at TDF, things have moved on a bit!!

thats the "upper" engine loom but still needs labelling and the autosport connectors thrown on...
