Nice Decent sized garage too - jealous!Today I made a roller frame and track to attract a winch we had onto to make it easier to take engines out, here's some photos of the build

Obviously it's not for lifting massive heavy things but handy for small bits and pieces
Thanks, I don't think theirs a brake on it we bought the winch from lidl a few years ago only now getting round to actually putting it up.Nice Decent sized garage too - jealous!
Just one question on the winch - what would happen if it let go - is there any kind of brake on it?
There is plenty of weld left I made sure of that. And I can't put anything all the way over and it wont be able to roll all the way along the beamNot being awkward or anything but
Youve kind of buffed off a lot of the welds on the plates on the corner joints Hard to see if you have actually left much there for the lifting ,, you could cut a length of chain and put it from the winch mounting bolts on one side or make a strap out of one piece of say 40x5 bar , right over the beam , to the bolt on the other side ,,, as a secondary safety , just in case .
probably just the picture ,,,,There is plenty of weld left I made sure of that. And I can't put anything all the way over and it wont be able to roll all the way along the beam
I can see where your coming from, but it I'd say it going to be strong enough for what I'm doing I can't see I'm going to be lifting anything that's going to out too much strain on it. The plate is 6mm and I cut a 4 mm line then bent and filled it with weld.
It don’t really matter about the welds on the trolley, motor or anything else.
The Achilles heel of this set up is the mounting of the rail to the timber joists
If it’s over loaded the bolts, joists or flange plates will be first to go
How do you mean reweld it if it comes loose, If what comes loose ?id advise you to reweld it again if it comes lose and it will depending on your weight that motor and everything is coming down hard
5mm steel welded with a clarke 150

Good idea !I like it and “well jell” of your garage. Maybe a few holes along the length of that beam (on the centre line) and matching hole on the cradle so you can pin it in place as you lift and then pull the pin to slide it.

thats not where the issues lie ,,,, its the winch to side plate thats the prob ,, so pinning it will in effect be above the joint that caught my eye.
