Snap On Tool boxes / Roller cabinets etc

Are these as good as they claim.

Someone near me selling a 3 month old 40" Snap On Roller Cabinet in Black for £1100.

I do have an American Pro roller cabinet which isnt too bad but just wondered if all the hype over Snap On cabinets is justified ?

They are good but very expensive for what they are, I started buying Snapon an an apprentice - then I found Proto were 1/2 the price and just as good.

I find a lot of cheaper tools are just as good as snap on, and the only people I know that have snap on are the type that have to have the brand names for everything. the guy over the road from me trying to start up as a mobile mechanic uses a lot of blue point stuff that he gets through his mates contract with them. some of the stuff he has, especially the things like socket extension bars and UV joints feel cheap and 2 of the 3/8 extensions are twisted at the head.

I bought an unbranded roller cab box, 7 draws and a 4 draw top box too, a pair of keyed alike locks to replace the originals with and it all came to about 70 quid, now I have an 11 draw rolling tool box, lockable with one key and it never jams a drawer, even the bottom deepest one that is full of big mallets, stilsons and brass drifts, event the wheels are still going strong, still roll well still lock properly

Some of the lads at Heathrow Scania had cabinets that rivalled the size of my bungalow. A friend of mine has a limited edition McLaren Snap-on cabinet that he bought cheap but still paid a ridiculous sum for to a lad that desperately needed the cash, it's nice but I would rather have a cheaper box and more tools.

same here. as I say my box cost around 70 quid and does the same as the more expensive ones.

They really are things of beauty. My LR Mechanic has a massive Mac Tools one, and it's gorgeous. Proper jealous of it. If I had the cash I'd buy one

I bought a cheap clarke one, got my signmaker to do me a vinyl rally car and stick it on the draws. Its the ultimate in limeted edition - because I'm the only person in the world with it!

Spend the money on tools!

I spent quite a lot of time looking for a extra mid cabinet last year and ended up getting a Britool one. It's loads better than the cheap stuff but still good value considering how much better it is - strong, well finished, smooth draw movement.

+1 for Britool. Good quality and not paying too much for a name. I have a snap-on, a britool and a "american Pro" Sealey

The snap-on is built well, but no better than the Britool and probably twice the price.
The Sealey is in the wifes sewing room........................

Mixed views on Snap-on gear seem to emerge. I meet a few agricultural mechanics, and those who do a lot of actual work with their tools have some snap-on gear, but generally a good mixture. Some tools are worth the extra as they are better, but in many cases there are alternatives out there that are far better value. Some items are replaced if you break them, but plenty of snap-on gear can be broken (or lost!) leaving you heavily out of pocket.
However, I do see a lot of snap-on chests, even if all the tools inside are mixed. I think I'd be trying to get one for a bit less though.

i have a 4wheel metal trolley with a shelf and stuck a snapon toolbox on top of it that i got sh..it cheap of a scrote 40 years ago and painted the trolley red. u wouldnt believe the amount of people that want t buy it of me they cant tell shi...t from clay

the best snap on boxes are the old master series with the chrome box section edges.

Buy a used Snap-On box off the dealers van, or wait for the one you want to pop up on evilbay. I can't really talk as I recently bought this...



...off my dealer for a silly amount of money. But for my service vans or any other boxes I've needed I've always gone for used ones.

Everyone to there own but I don't get the snap-on thing when top quality stuff like Elora, Gedore & Stahlille or even KingDick (if you want to keep it british made) are available why spend more?

get the model number and check here

if its a KRA series the 4000 range can handle up to 1088KG of combined weight where as the same size 2000 range is can only cope with 590KG

and of course, you'll get good money for it if eventually you sell it, if you look after it well.
