In my continuing efforts to tidy up the workshop, I wanted somewhere to store my sockets in easy reach, sticking them in socket bars or those trays of bars and putting them in the roll cab didn't suit me, Socket bars are pants, keep falling off or you can't get the damn thing off and trays need a deep draw for deep sockets.
So I made a tray, the criteria were
I used 0.8 mm sheet, I didn't win a bid for gabro box folder so I shoved the sheet into the gap between the bench plates to bend a 10mm lip. I also change the design and welded where there was going to be a fold.
Welded up and tried for size, I didn't take any intermediate pictures as I lost my camera temporarily in amongst the workshop detritus
Sprayed up with an old rattle can I had knocking about
Complete with sockets but without the wooden hedgehogs to keep them sorted, my 1/4" sockets wouldn't fit on the sealey plastic hedgehog, I'm going to replace them anyway, ideal tea-break job when working form home.
Cheers
Andy
So I made a tray, the criteria were
- Must keep the sockets sorted
- keep all my 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" sockets plus adaptors but not the impact sockets sorted
- Must be able to spot AF, metric and whitworth easily
- Must fit on the 4" channel that goes around the workshop so I can move it at will
- Give me an opportunity to play with the plasma cutter and practise thin sheet welding
- Take a max of 2 hours to complete
