this works but dont rush the drilling get as meny holes in as you can dont askme how i know but a stuck chesel is had to remove

drill a strait row of holes across and just bang 2 cold chisels in with a big hammer they will get stuck till the block just cracks and fall apart . thats all they used to do in quarries with large rocks
Bugger with the clothes pole. Combined drainage system - fairly common in old properties in Scotland at least.
Depending on the invert level of the drain you prob dont need to vent that if just for a toilet if that helps you - form a stub stack and just tee into existing.

Yes, my plan is to have only the WC on the new drain and put on a stub stack, I'll put in an aav for the inspection. But may remove it if testing shows it's ok.
The drain below is between 7 and 8 inches external diameter, is this what is called a 6 inch pipe, that will marry up to a 160mm plastic pipe?
I'll put in one of these and run 110mm up the new trench.

I think this is the correct adaptor for the clay to plastic but it gets a bad review.

Might be as well taking that length with the bit of lead out and if need be that tee its connecting to out as well and replace with 6" plastic.
You wont need a durgo if its only 1 toilet and the head of the drain is still vented unless the invert of the drain is miles lower but its not. Head has to be vented in scotland for BC not sure about England.
BC will be wanting a drain test on the new bit as well I'd think.

Good point, thats normally an indication that its a communal sewer. I would carefully dig around/under that pipe and form a concrete base under it to half way up the pipe, carefully disc cut the top off it to form a half channel, use a slipper for your new wc connection and brick build a manhole onto the new base.

The only thing feeding the 6 inch pipe is the 4 inch outlet from the small p trap drain. That small drain is fed fed from the two rainwater downpipes and the old kitchen sink.
I guess that 6 inch pipe was just what they were using at the time.
The 6 inch goes directly into a "Y" with the main WC from the house. I'm not sure how I'd connect into that "Y" if I was able to get the 6 inch out of it. I'd also risk damaging the Y.

@RaceDiagnostics that is a salt glazed pipe, it really is best left in place as is and undisturbed. It will be easier to form a manhole on it rather than chop it about.

slice the 6 inch pipe back and put a rubber to plastic sleeve adaptor on it and fit a small 3 way round plastic manhole

Job done.
The pipe cut easily with a cheap Aldi diamond cut off disc. After removing the "repair" cap I found this.
So cut out some more.
New parts fitted.

a few of those (nearer the end) are water flowing over concrete... I always thought that was a bit no-no because it'll ware down with years of water flow over it?

The job is finally complete, quite a marathon with all the tiling. I haven't bothered with an aav as there is no self siphoning in the loo. I'll put one on top here if the building inspector insists.
