The bit about SORN that annoys me - it seem to be ~SORNed the moment you press "enter" on the declaration, regardless of whether you do it one day into the month, or the last second of it - meaning you either lose most of that month or you get the most out of it. I know I won't be taxing it at the end of the month, so I want to SORN it ready and continue to use it for the rest of the month I paid for . . .
Some years ago, I bought Fiat coupe for the engine - SORNed it little good little boy . . .got a reminder the next year . . . so re-SORNed it . . . got a reminder . . and another . . and another - got seven in total. Rang up to check it was actually SORNed . . .
The next year - no reminder, just the £100 fine . . .
They changed it the year after for one shot process.
It only really penalises those of us who try to be lawful and register things correct - those who used to not bother registering, taxing or insuring . . still don't . . .
