Hi, I just added a spoolgun to my mig pak 15. By using a different set of 6 pin connectors (only 5 connectons required) and getting into the wiring inside, I was able to connect the spool gun to the mig pak 15 with no problems. The motor drive for the internal motor works very nicely with the external motor in the spool gun. Thus the speed control on the welder controls the speed of the spool gun. The trigger is connected to the same two terminals where the normal gun is connected. 2 pins of the connector are for the trigger, 2 pins are for the motor connection, and the fifth pin is used to jumper the internal motor back into the circuit when using the regular steel gun and internal drive. (Requires a second plug with a jumper) Works great. Not sure why Lincoln wouldn't make a connection kit for these welders, guess there isn't gobs of profit to be made. Welded up a 1/8" thick mag wheel with a crack and chip in it. worked just fine, no preheat required. Only took setting C.
BTW, the folks who sold me a complete new 10' torch, and neglected to tell me (and sell me) a Teflon liner to work with aluminum, thanks a bunch. I now have a spare torch. :-(. The aluminum wire wouldn't feed through the brand new torch at all.
