How do you weld to fibreglass Jim? ;-)

You make a big ring out of sheet steel to match the outside of the cv and weld a stub to it to match the gaiter, and then rivet the ring to the bulkhead. Stainless would be especially nice in the longer term :-)

As already mentioned a Hellerman tool is the proper tool but they are more designed for fitting rubber sleeves on cables.

If you want a cheaper option look on ebay or any agricultural supplier shop for an Elastrator, almost exactly the same as a Hellerman tool but costs 1/4 of the price.

I don't know if it's rubber or 'rubber'...

It was a serious suggestion though, with some lube it's surprising what size objects will pass through a tight hole.

The proper lubricant is cheap enough - Hellerine

You can get CV boots that are split for ease of installation and you glue together. What about doing the same with a large grommet - cut then superglue back together ?

If your looking at saving the money and doing it quick cant you just de-pin the plug stick it through and repin?

Had a look on Ebay and found some for nine quid posted! Well worth trying, so thanks for that suggestion.

I think plan A is to do is as per the Middlebridge in the last photo. The ECU loom comes through a big grommet in a three inch square plate. Not sure how it was done, but with the lamb ring pliers and spare grommets, I can have a go. All I need to do now is to see if I can get some stainless plates made.

Looks like plan A may be working. I have mocked up a plastic mounting plate and I think it is OK. All I need now is some laser or waterjet cut plates making in stainless.

Not on deaf ears, but having done jobs like that in the past, I am not keen. With my mental capacity of late there is too much opportunity for Mr Cockup to come knocking.
