We have a John Nash grade II* listed building in our nearest market town - Foley House.
It was owned by the local council.
The front elevation boasted:
I won't go into the horrors perpetrated internally for use as council offices.
Nor to the formal garden, kitchen garden and orchard for essential staff car parking
From the council sales pitch:
"Located on an elevated site with panoramic views over the town and surrounding countryside. The property would benefit from a sympathetic comprehensive refurbishment. (my emphasis) Foley House was built circa 1790 and designed by the renowned architect John Nash as a Gentleman’s town residence for a local solicitor Mr Richard Foley.
Lord Nelson stayed in the property in 1802 as a guest of Admiral Foley."
You can imagine the fun a new owner would have with council planning department and CADW.
I won't criticise a proud owner prepared to spend money on high grade items. I might not have made her specific choices but those will be around for her great grandchildren to appreciate. Better than replacing plastic every 25 years.
