Starting to get really frustraited with Ali TIG welds, can't figure out the problem?

Though it's surprising how shiny that argoshield 5 weld is in comparison to mine.

I'm just ignoring it, the European and American made machines are most likely made with the same chinese gas piping inside of them so i'm just like whatever

When checking for leaks,
If you take the ceramic off and the collet & holder out you can screw a second back-cap in that side to seal up the torch end.

It was bad gas, picked up a hobbyweld cylinder of Argon today and its a night and day difference... forgot to take a photo but nuclear power stations here I come!

Thanks again for everyones suggestions, i've been almost losing sleep over troubleshooting this the last few days. At least now I can move on with some practice.

Nah, I will do when I get a chance to sit down and do a few, maybe tomorrow since I might need to do a sample to chuck at the gas supplier anyway (you know, just to prove that i'm not an incompetent idiot blaming their gas )

I had a brief attempt at tig alu, a couple of years ago, I thought I was ok'ish at stainless steel, but alu threw me, never really got my head round it frankly.

But I've got some beads I laid down, somewhere at work, I've a transformer welder, which seems to work, but I'm no expert.

I finally got 10 minutes to go and sit at the bench and run a few beads, ordinarily I would probably say something like don't be too harsh but quite frankly i'm bloody pleased with the results so far for how little experiance I have, now i'm not fighting bad gas it'll be enjoyable to get some practice in once I have some spare time.

Aluminium is unknown grade, just scrap from a machinist and to be honest I didn't really clean it that well, just a quick wire brushing and the big soot mark is where I dipped my tungsten

I was a bit heavy on the pedal for the first few beads and you can see the better beads are where I backed quite a bit.

Assuming you haven’t cleaned that up, I would suggest you need to adjust your ac balance to get some more cleaning - you should see a tide mark along the sides of the weld.
