As you've been struggling with getting timber in why not try drilling a hole first with the sds then hammer in wood

Tank is all but empty, and Avanti refuse to fill it, saying it is no longer legally in the right place. It would have to be moved 3m from any boundary or building if it was to be certified. Plus it is now 30 years old.
Once it’s empty I’ll switch over to the twin 47kg bottle pack I had fitted a month or two ago.

And hopefully Avanti will take their tank away....

If they don't collect it you've just scored a big ol air tank .

I use cut up rebar to hold the shuttering in place. You could even do it posh and weld on a bit of plate with holes in to screw to the wood.
For bigger I hire road foarmers.


As for your tank.....bottled gas heating is dear, you might want to consider changing to another heat source.

15/20mm square/ round bar would do your trick. Local stock holders might have off cuts or scrap they may let go for nothing. Sharpen the end and drive it in.

Pointed angle iron is good for bony ground and easy to screw to the shutter boards.

That’s an idea, and probably easier to obtain than fat rebar.

There’s only the daughter and me, two bed bungalow, doesn’t take much heating. Electric shower, no bath, two burner gas job, electric oven. I might even go to an all electric cooker some day.

You have 2 fence lines there to hold it with a bit of scant 3x2 and a row of flags on the 3rd...there's only 1 side on the grass side it needs pegging. I think your over thinking the job and getting bogged down

I’ve heard there’s an old trick, hook a car exhaust up to it, to drive out all the air, then hold a match to the outlet. Fumes burn off slowly, and then it’s clean.

You’re not wrong, I tend to get engrossed in the minutia, yet still manage to have to do just about everything twice or thrice.

Last thing I want is to balls this up when 3 cubes of concrete are slopped into it..

Thanks for the offer, I have a fairly long 18mm bit for my SDS drill. Got to see what material I can access and take it from there.

So, with all the usual inspiration and advice from you guys, the jobs a good 'un, as some people are want to say.

Holes SDS drilled in the ground, 3/4' steel tube knocked in, drilled and screwed to the shuttering. Several pieces of wood wedged and screwed between slabs and shuttering, and some more between the gas tank base and shuttering. Bricks will be wedged in places along the back plank.

Now to find someone who can supply concrete, haul it into the back yard, lay it and level it up. Any recommendations in the West Midlands? Years ago I had a couple of guys do it with a big 'mix it on the spot' machine and a big wheelbarrow.

Wacker plate, to be best used on dry ground, or wet? Or doesn’t it matter?

Seems to be a fair bit of damp weather coming by daily.
