When I did my apprenticeship there was one guy in my class who, on being presented with an algebra problem and being told to "find x", drew a circle around the "x" and an arrow pointing to it saying "here it is".

Surprisingly he didn't make then end of the course.

When I was a teenage drunk and trying to do my English A level I turned in a masterpiece of an essay. After reading Far From The Madding Crowd the title of said essay was 'Why did Boldwood Shoot Troy?' My essay was 4 words long...He didn't like him. I wonder why I never finished the course?

So what did you do for the rest of the time? I count the bolts holding the sports hall roof up.

Passed out drunk in the hall...pretty much sums up the short time I spent in 6th form. I still hold the school record for the lowest mark ever scored in an exam - a mighty 7% for an A level history mock. Turned up blind drunk, managed to write my name and a few random lines about The Carbonari before passing out in an untidy heap on the floor. Fortunately I've sobered up in the intervening period and now pass for a responsible adult (in a poor light)

In a few years, I'd like to do mechanical engineering but my English GCSE is so bad it's unlikely I'll be able to.

Anyone who applies themselves can pass any GCSE, fine some need to work harder than others to whom such things come easy. You should never listen to those with defeatist attitudes (often the teachers and parents).
