There's also the assumption that plastic is impervious to water vapour - most of it isn't. Especially the thin stuff.

He's covered it in oil. Surely it will be fine?! Its aluminium so it wont rust.

I had a new 200tdi one. It lived in a cardboard box on the shelf in the garage no oil on it and may have had some greasy paper loosley in there. Was there years and was like brand new still when i fitted it as part of a HG change.
