really nice work on the dustpan

I haven't made anything recently.

But I did try some experiments on copper, for a project.
Welds autogenously really easily. Ditto with filler wire. Biggest issue is managing the heat input.
But it's much harder to braze due to the similar melting points, I made a real mess of it. Shame, cos I love the colour contrast.

Need a bit more practice, I think.

Kind of. The definition of brazing is "metal items are joined together by melting and flowing a filler metal into the joint, the filler metal having a lower melting point than the adjoining metal"

So the aim was to melt the filler rod in there with enough heat to fuse in (just) without melting the base metal too much. Works really well on steel, but given that copper and silicon bronze have similar melting points, all i ended up with was a really cold weld.

Thanks, I was trying to make it look like it was pressed from one sheet and save for a few weld marks I think I’m pretty close.

Brazing is a non fusion joint; uses tight fitting joints and capillary attraction to suck in the braze material which wets to both surfaces and achieves a bond on the surface of the parent material.

Another non fusion process. Similar to brazing; off the top of my head, I believe the key difference between the soldering and brazing process is the temperature range and fluxes used. Soldering, then hard soldering, then brazing in terms of heat used in the joint.

Being from different countries with different uses is an issue but change opinions through a forum is a big issue because we struggle to understand the tone of the words we use

Not quite as flash as the dustpan but I made a miniature brazier out of a cam pulley and primed the frame for my jig table this afternoon.

yep. Because it melts at a higher temp it forms a stronger joint

Today I’ve been sewing.
Got some off cuts of leather, my mums old sewing machine and made a low profile tig torch sheaf. Not perfect but I’m happy.
