Normally I just talk with the people to see what they want then work out things from there. Sometimes a 3D model is done in Fusion (or previously Solidworks) and that way I can visualise problems or ways to make it better.

Never had much luck turning stainless, but must have got lucky with one of the drops from my friendly scrappy.
Needed a screw in plug for a the end of a stainless pressure vessel. I have no reliable means of measuring the internal thread, so I just used inside callipers to get some idea.
Well the special helpful perfection seeking gods must have been sitting on my shoulders, because when I thought I must be getting close, I took it out of the lathe for the first time and it was a perfect fit, phew !

Amazon magnets fitted. Individually they lift about 1.6kg and the combination is over 5kg. Not glued, fitted a steel 3mm plate the other side for them to stick to. With it almost done, I've had a better idea.
39mm bore, 43mm deep.
I have not decided if I will cross drill and pin to seperate the sizes, and to work out where to fit the collet holder pins.

A pair of bracket things. 40x8mm flat, cut the radius on the end with a massive rasp from Hotponyshoes, went surprisingly quickly.
Here they are fitted, the side gate shuts against it. I put the post up about ten years ago with a line of Rawl plugs, didn't think to offset the screws so every time the gate slams it levers the plugs out, these brackets offset the screw as far as possible. I've also swapped Rawl plugs for M10 stud and Fischer resin so there's no pulling them out anyway.

Bit more done to the trailer.
All the box and hubs welded on.
The final vertical weld.
Flipped it over as normally I don't mind doing overhead welds but in stainless I was not so keen especially as I would be having to lie down directly under it and stainless is runny
I got all of the frame welded underneath and only have some eye bolts to weld on but that will be tomorrow.
