Suggestion on how to repair this seat belt anchor

This Jag was a fabulous aesthetic design but is truly a sh1t piece of engineering design with lots of poor quality parts, there are water traps and design flaws all over it. It was a big mistake buying it and I would advise anyone against buying one. I think I must be 250hours into this one, just to keep it ticking over.

They are beautifull looking cars, I had often thought that a supercharged one would be fun but seeing the corrosion and them needing complicated suspension rebuilds, I will quite happily take your advise.

The post 2006 X150 model has an aluminium body so should be better, some say the body shape is more masculine but less classic, either way should it should have much better longevity and less maintenance.

If I had known then what I know now I would have saved a bit more and gone for that one.

This afternoons work.

Patch tacked in.

I started welding but my welds were getting worse and worse but I pushed on, should have stopped. When I finished I realised I had run out of gas Aghhhh! I will need to go over a fair bit of it again.

I hadn't been able to get a new power file either so pushed on with the grumbling old one till the motor seized.

Anyway at that point my wife turned up with my birthday present, for the 450SL, that should stop the new wing rusting.

Then split open the power file...

And salvaged the usable parts as spares.

I'm gonna have to whisper this but......(I bought a Silverline one as a disposable tool for 23 quid, gotta say it's been okay so far even with the abuse it's getting)......Shhhhh

Guys, thanks for all your help and suggestions so far.

I have another one, I picked up some scrap at work today to use as the oversized washers anchors, it's 3 mm stainless. Will I be able to tack it in place ok with my mild steel wire and 93% Argon / 5% Carbon Dioxide / 2% Oxygen gas?

I guess the fixing of the washer to the car is not critical as it will be held in place by the nut and bolt anyway.

Yes it'll tack in fine.

Unless welding in fully I'd not weld it as you'll have bare metal under the washer where you've welded, could just rust again.

I'd suggest painting all surfaces, a anti-corrosion type product between the surfaces (something like Dinitrol classic) and if you really want to go to town seam seal the edges.

Could glue it on with seam sealer

I was going to suggest that as well but just in case he wanted to get it off. It's a good idea though, it stops moisture getting in underneath.

I use copper grease a lot and then Dinitrol Classic over the top of nuts and threads as well.
