Super 6 Welding Rods, any good, average or poor???

I'm only a hobby welder so I know nothing compared to you guys but something I have found with Super 6 6013s (mainly 2.4mm) is that they run much nicer and more consistently with pulse. For 2.4mm I set my R-Tech tig ac welder to a base of 60 amps and peak of 115 amps and pulse width in the 12 o'clock on the dial (guess this is around 50/50). TBH I didn't know this welder could do pulse stick (I thought it was only for TIG) but since discovering that it does I now use pulse stick all the time. Have just ordered some Super 6 7018s from Langley Steelworks so am looking forward to giving them a try.

there are many rods and many applications and for many of us we like the consistency of a decent rod to do all manner of things such as structural work for example, if you find they work well with your welding plant and a way of improving their performance then I say good luck to you.

I'm just confused if you have or haven't used them?

Most people are saying to avoid them, but you have said they are ok - but from your posts it's not clear that if that's your actual experience or just what you've heard? Sorry if you think I'm being obtuse but if your recommending something then it'd be good to know if it's from personal experience or not.

Do I get the impression that you believe that some one is swinging the lamp?

I get the impression you, I guess others as well, are thinking that some one here often post false hoods, hear say, cut and paste items. Or just that it seams he is using the stuff from the STF, below Electronic Maintenance Room?

Now, not all here are up to date with new technology, but a lot soon get to know how to paste a link. I know a 86 year old with a smart phone and they can load images and links.

I also know there can be issues with some devices up loading images, put I have read many post on how do it, so a quick read will help.

But I have bean catching up on a lot of past post. I am taking the exams I wrote, so I have time. I agree with almost all of yours and others post about some posts.

I know you survived "The Grad" and the Rubber road,( I bet you were a micky mouse kellick) I have spoken and met people on here, so I know what you say is based in fact, I also know on here we have a great range of experience, with people who are willing to help those who need help and advice.

Shame one person, who will not be named, posts dribble and rubbish and leads to a thread being closed down or an argument. But I advise to treat it like a bad smell. it will go away.

I ran a few dozen Stupid 6 3.25s 6013s this week and was pleasantly surprised to find that they weren't totally crap. In fact for the money (half the price of our nearest named brand rod) they certainly weren't only half as good. Slag is a bit heavy, with a bit of a tendency to bury the puddle in downhand or get a bit slumpy in a vert, but for nearly half the cost to us of a name brand they were a viable alternative if funds are really tight.

If what your doing is fillets or butts in flat position, get yourself some Oerlikon Fincord M's. (3.2mm run a bit nicer than 2.5s) Lovely smooth arc, minimal spatter, can hold a nice tight arc.
If its positional go for Murex Vodex. Nice fast freezing slag, forms a strong weld. With new or old crappy steel too. Run a bit better with an ever so slightly longer arc than a fincord though. Can set up once for whatever thickness your welding, then use the same settings for downhand, vertical, or overhead.
Wouldnt touch super 6 rods again myself, horid spattery things, real harsh sounding arc too, and real horrid swirling slag that didnt seem to want to stay toward the back of the puddle.

Thats just my personal thoughts though.

Liquid metal think you picked two of the dearest 6013 out there, bang for buck bohler pheonix bleau. Superb in every position. Run easier than vodex, and better penetration than fincord, and every better less than half the price!
