Sykes Pickavant adjustable spanners.

Anyone know anywhere I can get Sykes Pickavant adjustable spanners?

No idea, don’t think I’ve ever seen them - but do they need to be that particular brand, assuming they are a “normal” adjustable spanner and not for a specific job. Everyone I know uses bahco which are pretty much the gold standard of adjustables, though I have a couple of Gedore sets which I picked up from work which are also decent.

I'm just trying to replace an old one like for like if possible. I ended up abusing mine to get a few jobs done, and now it seems they don't even sell them any more.

I can honestly say I’ve never even seen one, a cursory google search doesn’t throw anything up either so I’d say you might be out of luck - I’d be tempted to replace it with bahco or facom do a decent range too.

Thanks, it's larger ones I'm after, and they need to be new.

I currently have one that's about 12" and another that's about 18".

I've had a pretty good look around and I don't think they even make them any more.

I'm sure you are right. The Sykes ones aren't really anything special. As I said though, I've had these ones about 25 - 30 years and they just feel right when I use them. They don't look anything special, but they are nice to use.

It won't take you long to get used to a Bahco

The ergo grips are supposed to be cheaper made than the regular all-steel versions, I've got both and I think they're all good. Wouldn't have anything else.

A change is a good as a rest @Climber. I fell out of love with shifters until I tried these thin jawed jobs below, they can get in places too tight for a spanner. Can even get into pipe nuts on spool block where a spanner wont go

Bahco all the way, I know people can get a bit sniffy about adjustable spanners but I've had loads of occasions where the right spanner would have rounded something off but I was able to get a Bahco tight on the fixing and undo it.

I can thoroughly recommend these too, made by Stanley. You can open them like a pair of mole grips then tighten the jaws and close them again, gives and amazing grip.

Thanks all. I suppose I'll have to stop being sentimental and get with the program. Some of the larger Bahco ones do look better than mine.

The difference with Bahco is that the thread on the adjuster is opposite handed compared to all others, that is their patent.

This means that they do not slacken off under load like every other make does.

PITA using other makes as you constantly adjust it the wrong way

I think Facom make a far better made version of the Stanley locking adjustable
