I almost forgot about this. No harm done though, quite the opposite.

Not hugely important to clear off all the rust, it's probably going to get cut up anyway but it will be nicer to work with. The inside is spic and span.

Tap came out nice too.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as a procedure but it works.

Citric acid is good stuff...but don't stick your BZP stuff in it.....ask me how I found that out!!

Although on the plus side, it's great for stripping scaff poles prior to welding.

I love citric acid. Was amazed when I saw the results. I originally purchased Bilthambers Deox C which was around £15-£20 for a 1KG tub but found out that it was basically citric acid which you can purchase a Kilo on ebay for about a fiver!

Well the whole idea was to either cut or beat enough clearance into the tank for it to fit the wrong bike.

The owner (who may reveal himself) turned up and is more of a hammer sort of chap so...

Heated it up locally with a selection of gas torches and beat the thing into submission.

It is near enough symmetrical for our purposes and probably doesn't leak either. We managed to cause a fair bit more damage to everything around it but the tank seemed to survive.

This one will be used to test the fit and look, we have a selection of other tanks should this modification fit (or not!)

This tank might have done me in. Later that day had a ferociously sore throat and it occurs to me I was breathing in fumes from a faux leather sofa I put under the tank to stop it from being damaged.

Here we are five days later and it still feels like a burn and it doesn't feel like it's healing.

Bizarrely I also had the worst flu type symptoms I have ever endured. Everything hurts or aches, can't get comfortable, my forehead is so hot it is uncomfortable to touch whereas at the same time, I cannot get warm.

I am hoping its a regular flu, compounded by some smoke inhalation damage. If it's the other way around and a flu as a result of some infection getting into a chemical burn, I may yet be in big trouble.

Off to A+E now (in an hour or so after I get warm).

Hell no. 111 is the help desk, they can tell you what to do without bothering the grown ups.

999 and ambulance is for emergency, I rarely if ever call them first.

111 answered and told me to head off to A+E, take a piece of plastic... Could be a strep.

Yep, I think it's all good. Was worried about damaging the throat with all those fumes but it turns out it's more likely a common flu. I don't get out much and on that day, I also left the house and even interacted with some other humans. Apparently I do have a very high temperature and my throat is very red. Antibiotics and massive amounts of paracetamol, should be right as reign.

That’s good. Been unwell myself since Friday. Felt it coming on Weds morning with a sort throat. Yesterday is the worst I have been in a number of years. Getting on top of it with cold and flu caps and lozenges.

It's the changeable weather. Bugs which are normally killed off by frosts are having a field day.

We've had hatchings of insects these last few days - it'll be spring lambs in a week or so, early enough yet.

I did something similar a while back, have a set of hammers and dollies but beating skills are non existent.
Made a template of the base shape required with a stiff foil turkey tray, smacked away and dropped the tray in every now and again to make sure I was on track.
Worked out ok and would work out even better if the actual tank base you want to copy is available to make the template.
