Hi, I don't know whether any of you went to a Skillcentre when they were going, but amongst the equipment issued were a set of Govt. Issue welders notes. A couple of days ago I came across mine and decided to have a read of them, and considering that they were written before the advent of electricity, made a very good read. Tig welding sets seemed to be multiple units. I used one many years ago at a body-building firm in Essex, which was based on an Oxford welder with a HF unit, a huge device for creating AC and DC output as required, a huge contactor unit and a water-cooling kit, which leaked like a sieve meaning that the operator stood in a pool of water getting a burst of HF every time the switch was operated. At the S/centre, most training was done with a "pot", connected to a transformer big enough to power a shipyard. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and learned a lot, including, most importantly, how to adapt to different equipment and techniques, thank you Mr Caesar. Sorry if this has wandered, but I thought some of you might like to hear how some others got started.
