After gathering materials from the council tip, on the basis that's "it's as much mine mate as it is yours Mr Council rat," eg I'm recycling and I pay my taxes so in theory we all own the Council tip! I've just built this mobile heavy duty welding bench.. My tugs away at mo for repairs.. The SS arm supports the torch when it's not in use along with my dremel which is wired through the arm.. Basically I wanted something to keep ally cables out of the way.. Hence they are routed through the bench and out the back.. Tools obv all purchased but everything else is scrap even the stainless and the wheels... The arm swings to allow dremel to be used nearly anywhere and then can be locked in position .. Paper towel is auto feed as such,, works great.. Will add a small metal bender attachment as well when it's finished.. Made the top multi hole fixing so I can easily move vices or grinders etc around in different positions as req..

Matt ack finish with matt lacquer on top...

Hi, First time for everything, never seen a gas bottle protruding from a bench top before, Good idea on the removable items, grinder/polisher etc, otherwise they would prevent larger projects fitting on the bench top. Good job,
P.S. thats not a toilet roll hanging below the grindstone is it? that would make it a truly multi-functional bench

Don't fancy using the loo roll once its full of grinding dust. On a serious note you just put flammable material directly below a great spark maker, it wont go up fast but too easy to put it away while on an unseen slow smoulder. Other than that it a cool bench and likely saved you a substantial amount in materials

That's a fair point.. I think I will move it.. Not a loo roll holder.. I used the bars from a oven grill I found at dump.. Moulded them and polished them up.. Used the grille bars also to hold dremel and as a torch cradle... I will make a bigger holder and position it away from bench.. As I do a lot of Ducati engine rebuild work it's handy having the dremel out of the way and yet to hand..

Please knock up a sheet metal guard for the bench grinder though; that's an accident waiting to happen, and from the number of bowk-inducing pictures the forum's occasional 'look how I ended up in A&E' threads are filled with we don't need any showing pie-slices of abrasive wheel embedded in you.

Angle grinder needs a guard on too. People who use them without a guard need to be strung up and beaten with a big stick. Seen so many accidents and twiglet fingers where blokes take guards off.

You wouldn't put your man bits within half an inch of a rotating grinding wheel would you, so why your fingers?

No. Grinders come with those, but I find them to be utterly useless; even when new they invariably collect reflections and are hard to see through, and once covered in dust and scratches are simply a hindrance. I mean the cowl around the grinding wheel; the remnants of it are there but the outer parts that are removable to allow changing the wheel are missing.

Likewise.. If you hand it out be prepared to take it in return..

No wonder we have all the jobs filled in the UK by Poles and Romanians etc.. We are too frightened to just get on with it.. H&S paperwork blah blah blah...

Does a chainsaw have a cover? no ...

I run 350mm tct wood blades in my Stihl wizzer to cut my 18mm plywood,done this for 10 years or more and can cut a line as straight as a normal Skill type saw with toes intact too

i remember when i had a McCulloch strimmer and bush cutter.
that had a blade you put on for bush cutting and it span at 10,000 rpm.
was always worried that if it did come off which way would it go.
got rid of it in the end as it was a PITA.


wow PDG same age as me then lol

i was going to hire one for the day to level off a tree stump in my sisters garden.
but they wanted £85 for a day rental.

i went of ebay and found a 18" roybi in a case. catalogue return for £93 with 3 month warranty.


it would seem someone got it from a catalogue and used to it cut a tree down.
then returned it within 14days..
