That's not a spider...

This beastie appeared in our bath last week.

It was bigger than the bath plug, I roughly measured it with a tape, 60mm across!

It lived happily in the bath but after a few days I was starting to smell so I had to man up & remove the spider! A clear plastic bowl & some thin card was used to transport it outside to the car port.

As I was trying to catch it you could hear its footsteps on the bath!

Then last night I went into the spare room & there was an equally big spider right next to the light switch!

What’s wrong with you, fascinating creatures, spiders. They do more good for people than they realise, but yet people are generally so eager squash them.

Very nice example you had there in the bath, hopefully it enjoys it’s new home in the car port.

My guess is that it's the overall look of them, all those legs and the speed that the bigger ones can move at, you can hardly call them cute and cuddly?
I'll happily watch/have a money spider climb over my hand for example but nothing bigger, why is that I wonder? It's still a spider after all.

I don't like killing anything so I use a plastic spider/insect catcher, just place it over the 'beast' and slide the lid/floor closed, the handle on top is about a foot long.

I woke up in my chair the other night just in time to see a huge one scuttle past me. Made me jump! I read a bit about them, apparently they can bite but rarely do, even when provoked. Also, the reason they’ll often stop mid-run isn’t to stare at you and scare the bejebus out of you, it’s because they need to have a rest.

The butler sink I fitted in the garden a couple of months ago catches those all the time, not sure why but it's always that species and about that size that gets stuck, maybe the smaller ones can out.

I just move them to the other end of the garden, I'll only kill wasps and flies.

A spider complete with web travelled from Ashford, Kent to Bicester, Oxon and back on the door mirror of my car , for much of the journey at 70 mph.

Seen a big spider like that in the workshop at home a few weeks ago so sent a pic of it to the apprentice in work who's terrified of them, followed by a pic of a matchbox with some air holes punched in it. Spent the next day terrorising him with an empty matchbox
