My teacher was one of a few people that I have ever known who could grind a drill,freehand,to cut undersize. What? Shock? Horror?… nope, if you go measure say a 10mm drill, the blank only measures 9,9mm. The 0,1mm difference between hole size and cut size is achieved by grinding off center. If you dont, it will seize. Paul was probably one of the most generous people I ever met. Willing to share all he knew. I wouldn’t be able to do half of what I can if he hadn’t been like he had been. Never met somebody who could free hand grind left hand drills as easily and accurately as he did. Also one of the few people who could,and did, take a brand new, machine ground ,quality make drill bit and re grind it,freehand, to get it to cut better and more on size than it was from the factory. I still have drills he resharpened,even though he passed 21 years ago…
