mine have been whacked many times off road hell the truck has been balanced on one of them before if they were bolted on the bolts would have bent or worse snapped I think
Bolts are easily replaced if they bend or snap. It's one of those things where there probably is no best way, but the most forgiving way is definitely bolted. Better to pop a few bolts than rip the chassis or snap the arm(s). If welding them on, simple things like rounding off all corners on the mounting plates makes a difference. On welded, fish plates apparently lead to better strength and less chance of damage too, over square or oblong plates, (though I'm guessing sharp corners are the worst culprits, whichever is used), but I'm no welder, so personally have no experience or familiarity with that point.
Agree 100% with MattF, personally ground clearance allowing I would also add a bracing bar/tube accross to other chassis rail to spread the load when hit hard, obviously prop etc comes into play, dont know how much room under one of those. Arther
