There used to be a safety video shown to engineering apprentices here about the various dangers of machinery, grinding wheels, burns while welding etc. It was extremely graphic and anyone who seen it never forgot it. Maybe its the way to do it ?

Makes it alot more serious , Shows this is what actually happened to someone and a real person who could be you if you don't follow these procedures etc.

Rather than just wear these or else

in some cases even on this forum graphic video to a degree needs to be shown

part of the reason i post certain youtube videos as a point its so easy to forget or do something that you know better

but takes a split second for something to have you

Neighbor had something come loose on a PTO and impail Him through His calf into the ground. Another time He had a gravity bed wagon with the (drain) cover removed. The corn plugged up and He jumped in and tried to stomp the corn down with everything running. His big toe got caught and held Him there overnight, frost on the ground with no coat. He stayed there till 8:00 am and a delivery driver drove by and freed Him. He just laughed all these off. The last time He was pushing snow backwards and the tractor went over the hill and upset on Him, died almost instantly.

I dealt with an rtc years ago where a tractor with front tines pulled out of a lane onto a road and into the side of a school minibus, fortunately no significant injuries, the bus was opened up like a tin can.

Same with hard hats on site! To many times I've not seen something I would without the hat on

When I was in college, ag engineering, we did have videos like this. We also had slides. The black and white ones were fatalities. One I remember was a sawbench exploding after someone hooked it to a 1000 rpm pto instead of 540. There was a wellie boot in the corner of the photo, which apparently still had a foot in it. Hence, among other things, my comments on pto shafts earlier. I've seen plenty in real life too.

Another accident around here, a "South of the Border" driver was known to drink and drive a tractor. He was discing up a sod farm field and fell off the tractor and under the discs. Just happened to drive by and see something under a blanket on the ground. 6:00 news explained it all.

When my dad was teaching agricultural engineering and farm mechanization many years ago he used to get the incident reports from the (then) Farm Safety Executive* and pin them up, including the photos, in the corridor where the students had to wait before class.
I know a fair few guys who he taught and they all said that helped improve their views on safety, especially when the uncle of one of them made an appearance!
I saw quite a lot of them as a kid (he kept all the old ones as notepaper afterwards being a typical Yawkshurman) and it had much the same effect on me.

Mate of mine has been a farmer for almost 40 years. When he was an apprentice (is that the right word?) on a farm in Falkirk he was running down the hill in the snow and impaled his foot on one of these spike'd tines (is it called a "grape"?).
Took him half an hour to hobble back to the farmhouse.

He told his boss he had put a fork through his foot as thought he'd have got sacked for running in the field.

He was off for weeks because of the secondary infection...

i bet that was forking sore

probably the same as i once saw .farm hand bailing in middle of field and stood in the same spot for ages farmer went over and his head stuck in the bailer it pulled him inend off

That's as idiotic as it gets, but at least it's clear how he did it. I just can't see how, even if you you were nissed as a pewt, you could fall off a tractor seat and end up underneath it. It would take serious gymnastics!

I saw an interesting photo a few years back where two rowing boats had collided, the victim was in a sliding seat single & crossed the path of a sliding seat 4 at an angle, combined closing speed of approx 15mph plus. The bow of the four rode up the deck of the single & the sharp point of the bow impaled the rower entering his back about where his kidney was & going right through exiting opposite front.
The rescuers sawed the bow of the four off & he went to hosital with it still in him, He survived.
This is why such boats have a rubber ball stuck on the sharp pointy bit.

Oh I know, I trained hundreds of tractor drivers in Africa and Asia, and was in charge of a fleet of six hundred of them in Indonesia, and none of them had cabs. The usual accident is getting on or off it while it's going very slowly but tripping on the step and getting crushed, or climbing on the back, over the implement and falling off between the tractor and discs, but I never saw anyone kill themselves by falling out of the seat!

Few possibilities but I would take a bet he was stood at the door before he fell.
Either trying to listen or watch for a perceived problem with the disks or more likely taking a pi$$ or having a fag.
