That my friend is inexcusable. Cover those up. Without trying to sound harsh welding in a tee shirt is beyond daft.Sunburn from the last time, very sore! This is from 15 minutes welding, maybe less.
Yep, lesson learned! I actually bought a jacket for welding a while ago but with the heat and thinking "it's only a few minutes" I didn't bother finding it. Lesson learned. Had a go with the adflo as well to get a bit of a breeze going, useful bit of kit.

I know its been said alreasy but its a serious matter .
Cover up when welding its stupidity not to you might think its only a few mins but a few mins here and there leads to a lot and skin only heals itself so much .iv an apprentice on warning if i see it again he wont weld in our workshop again (hes a smart ass instead of takin advice answered back )
As regards welding its all down to practice get comfortable ensure your tungsten is sharp and gas is good material is clean and dont overdo your grip iv seen lots keep contaminating because there holding the torch like its gonna run away make sure you can run the torch freely for the lenght you need .

I do appreciate the concern, I'm aware of the risks and I'm usually a belt and braces sort of guy when it comes to safety but in this case I genuinely didn't think it'd get so bad from such a short time. I think I've learned my lesson anyway as those welds above were done on Sunday (which I was told was one of the hottest September days on record or something of the sort) wearing a long sleeve tshirt, jeans, welding jacket, and at one point 2 pairs of gloves! As I said though, I do appreciate the concern from you guys, and painful lesson learned.
Regarding the welds, apart from arc length and angle, I do need to work on moving my torch hand smoothly, I either put too much weight on it, to keep it accurate which results in jerky movements, or I do it freehand which overall makes movement easier but results in less consistent arc length.
Long term I also want to practice feeding the filler as the welds you see are about as long as I can do before my fingers get very warm and my gloves get charred.
Does anyone have any tips for making lines to follow on the metal? I tried scoring a line on my 1mm but as soon as the helmet goes dark I can't see it too well. I assume a sharpie would contaminate it?

It's not sound advice despite what you get away with.
That arc has potential to seriously harm and if you chose to take a chance of exposing your skin to it then I'd say you are risking your health. Each to there own. I've had a few burns and wised up.

Less of the creaming each other up and back to the welding.
I had the pleasure of meeting mr will today for a few hours under the arc and I have to say considering he has never welded stainless and Alu and only a few hours with the mild the results were very pleasing. Again I took a back seat on things and bearly held the torch. Shaky start turned into some cracking runs put down.
He took to the Alu from the first strike very well apart from been a bit keen to poke his rod in it (something most young lads suffer from...... I've heard)
The only challange which has beaten him today was the thin gage fillet other wise we got results on all. Alu fillets and thick steel fillets were nicely delt with. Well done will if you compare these with your top pics you'll see it was worth the trip. Hope to meet you again soon.

Thanks a lot, I enjoyed myself yesterday and feel a lot more confident sticking stuff together. I have a lot of practice ahead of me, especially on alu. Now I just need that stubby kit!

Hi mate. These are the ones I buy for my gas cooled torch. Have a browse through.
Bear in mind Rapids postage is about £6 so it's best to put a basket together of bits you need to justify the post.
Also @Jim Davey supplies ck stuff and is a regular user of the forum so you could pm him for his prices and delivery. I'm gonna start getting my ck front end parts from him now he's started stocking them. That reminds me, I still have a list to put together.

I found out the hard way my welding overalls had a small hole in was tig welding the inside of an unpainted trailer and when I got home I had a small sunburn (not sure this is the right word) on my left shoulder
