Timed Tank Drain Valves anyone ?

nice idea, I thought about it for a good while, came to the conclusion, more hassle wiring up etc than it was worth for the regular but not full time usage.
I ended up just piping the discharge to a more accessible spot in front of the tank, where I can operate the long handled ball valve open with my foot, quick blast then flick it back closed. I think as long as it's easily accessible, and visible you don't forget so often, seems to work fine for my limited use.

That's my problem - it's not visible, as the Hydrovane is housed in a Portakabin remote from the workshop. I've ordered one of the ones from China, but rather than lets it's timer run 24/7 puffing every 45 minutes even at night, I'll power it from a 'timer socket' that limits it to daylight hours only at 45 minute intervals for a few seconds.
aye I can see the issue for you, I walk past mine every time I go into the workshop, so easy enough to remember. That said I like pondy's idea of the sound attenuated enclosure. I need to finish the workshop extension, the compressor will be relocated definitely out of the main area, to the lean too. The temperature is often low and during winter the compressor often trips when the oil is cold, easily cured with a quick blast with the hot air gun, but still a ball ache though. I'll definitely build an enclosure as well, that'll help with the both the noise and the temperature.
Think I'll still pipe to an accessible foot operated valve though, I like the simplicity of it, one less thing to go wrong.

Thinner oil will help.
A longer hose between the compressor and the check valve may also do the trick, I've just fitted one to a compressor where it was turning but not able to gather enough momentum before the pressure buildup caused it to stall. A 1.5 meter extension to the pipe allows it time to spin up to speed before the pressure rises.
I got a job at Jaguar yacht years ago, they had a big ingersol rand compressor, must have been a 300 litre tank. Second day there water started coming out of the air tools. Nobody figured what the problem was until i went & turned the drain cock on the tank. The air reciever was completely full of water. Took about an hour to drain down & caused a minor flood! Dont think anyone had ever drained it.
