Do you know if that's the correct diagram for a 2003 2.8l model as they do differ?

Thanks for sending me the TIS, I'll check for myself once it arrives. My bunch of PDFs seems incomplete, not really finding these Ford manuals and parts diagrams even remotely as easy to use as the Suzuki ones for my Vitara.

As far as I know it is, they are fairly generic across the ranges, it lists that relay for all petrol models. It might be worth you signing up on fordmpv.com to get vehicle specific info, there are some knowledgeable people on there and its quite a comprehensive knowledge base.

Sorry I guess I'm showing my lack of knowledge when it comes to modern cars. The link below is for the Ford parts diagram. In addition to part #12 "Fuel shut off" relay there is part #22 which is labelled "Switch Assy - Fuel Shut-Off". What is this? Also the part numbers from this diagram, if copy-pasted into Google don't bring up anything useful. Would have expected for such a popular part to get lots of results on Google where aftermarket relays quote the OEM number that they are compatible with.

Well spotted. Have found the fuel pump relay, number 21 as in your diagram, it's the one that clicks when the ignition is turned on or when the fuel pump fuse is removed/replaced. It's hard to pinpoint excatly which relay is clicking so used a stethoscope.

The relay has some VW part numbers on it, have Googled them but only found used relays. Have ordered a used one for £8.

The relay doesn't look like the simple type that I'd know how to test:
