I broke an 8 lb one today. luckily the wind was against it or it would have gone a fair way.

Not today but a couple of days ago aquired this:



Technically i swapped it for a 4lb lump hammer.
At work the other day we were marking out a running track using Steel rebar stakes and some rope, after watching this luddite pounding away at one of the stakes I offered to loan him my lump hammer, after he had used it to pound a couple of stakes he offered to swap . Nearly snapped his hand off, some people just don't know what they have.
Btw the lump hammer was a £5 screwfix special I got years ago.

Can we have a picture, I've never seen a 5 in the flesh. Sounds like you're also missing an 'A', smaller than a No.1

I've got the 'a', No1, and several No2s ,and 3s but no 4 or 5. The place I work sells them so I handle them quite often, I can't imagine owning anything that I'd need to hit with a No5 though.

Yesterday [it's close] I acquired a selection of drive screws to replace the rusted upholstery tacks I had used to fix the "Grumpy Old Man's Club" notice on the cave - thanks to @hotponyshoes for the trouble he went to

Here's a before........you can see how grotty those tacks look



Sadly, as the Scottish Bard said "The best laid plans o' mice and men gang aft agley" and it proves to be the case here. Between showers I removed the plaque to find that the tacks have marked and slightly damaged the corners so the hammer screw idea won't cut it. I'll just have to replace like with like and try to keep them waxed [or something], replacing as necessary.

Sometimes you're the dog, others the tree...... If that was all there was to worry about!

Thanks for the offer, but you need somewhere to keep those lumps of HSS. I upgraded to some nicer compasses for drawing, still have the old ones from school for garage use!
