These actually pitched up on wednesday but only got a chance to try out the palm router today. Much nicer than the aldi one I have. The chisels were on offer and I could do with a reasonable set that I can keep together.

Already started, I also finally invested in one of those honing guide things. Always done my sharpening by hand on a stone but I think it might be time for me to get with modern stuff. Those chisiels will come "Ground ends" you will need to put a sharpening angle them. Easily done.
I like to see the box with a nice wax coating on the inside.
But very nice set.
I do enjoy using a well set up hand plane. Got the second hand Bailey 4 1/2 sharp and set up nicely now. Was taking some lovely shavings of the jara wood cutting block I'm working on.Chisels and planners are the only woodworking tools I enjoy using
I have wooden dust
Something I know very little about, and looking at You Tube there seems to be a lot of over the top advise, well OTT to a casual wood worrier like me.Already started, I also finally invested in one of those honing guide things. I could borrow my tormek back from my friend but I find if you keep on top of them things don't tend to need too much sharpening.
I'd say a lot of stuff is still made in imperial in China & India for the American & UK market , many of the measurements I've undertaken were exact imperial sizes unless specifically stated as metric such as imperial threads with metric headsFixed that for you, when they open I wont be going a mile down the road to the pub for a pint in my car thats on 15" rims then

Where is a good place to start on a decent sharpening / honing guide and stones (?) for planes and chisels?
Get a decent Honing guide.
Get a decent oil stone.
Get some decent oil.
The guide is easy and will tell you how far the blade should stick out to give you the correct angle.
Oil the stone. The first few times it will soak the oil up.
Using the full length of the stone and the full width start.
Averey 40 to 60 strokes, turn the stone through 180 degree's.
Keep doing it until the burr is even on the underside.
Using a circular movement re move the burr.
Use a black marker pen, colour the angle and do 2 stoles.
Look straight at the end, there should be no marker on the angle.
It is that easy.
The hardest part is not putting to much pressure with one hand when sharpening, as it will give the edge a skew.
Thank you Mr. TYA so far I fall down on the first three points, not knowing what is good and what is good snake oil or bad snake oil.
The rest of it is kind of like using the wet grinding wheel which I use for sharpening chisels at the moment which usually gets me a sharp but slightly random edge.
Any particular product to be looking at?
I would have gone for the axminster one https://www.axminstertools.com/axminster-rider-sharpening-station-kit-717767 but the website was being obstreperous and not letting me place an order. Had to phone to order, probably because of my dress so I just ordered a honing guide from FFX when I was ordering the makita.Something I know very little about, and looking at You Tube there seems to be a lot of over the top advise, well OTT to a casual wood worrier like me.

Thank you, looks like the sharpening station is out of stock ATM, perhaps I will order the Veritas honing guide and try it with the two christmas cracker grade diamond stones I have.I would have gone for the axminster one https://www.axminstertools.com/axminster-rider-sharpening-station-kit-717767 but the website was being obstreperous and not letting me place an order. If it's just hand planes and chisels the one above would be absolutely fine.
I've got a tormek mainly for my woodturning stuff.
Should have said, I went for the veritas honing guide (comes with a setting gauge) to use with stones I already have.
Oh they’re definitely both bench top drills but the pillar on the cleaner one is about 20cm taller than the one on the stand.there's bench and floor standing modelsthat looks like bench err it is
He was a long time member of a MIS, before he got a strop and left.
Was invited back to help the MIS to re open after lock down.
He knew better and did more work. Trying to curry favour with the MIS.
He now has thrown his toys out of the playpen and stomped off home.
I was asked back to give fire and other technical information.
The postings above is a sample of what we found.
I wish I had the others. Be very nice addition to have the set.
Today I acquired. This really cool trolley. She a big lump. It will be ideal for pulling my big lathe parts around at home. A little restore works and happy days View attachment 239514
Fractional inches originate from common sense start halving things down from one inch it's easy to do with dividers down to sixty fourths .Fractional inches are easy. If you tell someone a distance is 12 mm and they tell you they prefer fractional inches, just tell them it's exactly 120/254".
Besides asthma & cancer of the lungs from the dust of paper fibres decaying you also have to consider the delightful unhygienic people who have read the books an any pernicious diseases or toxic substances they might have had on their handsI'm sure I've heard of an illness librarians (And presumably booksellers) get from books, can't find anything on it now though, tried googling it but apparently there's something more important going around.![]()
In the central repository where I did some work back in the mid 1980's in one of the major tax record areas there was a contracted cleaning team in light weight breathing gear going on each night de dusting the 26 or more miles of tax paper records on shelves going back to 1921 .Librarians lung, caused by mould spores and dust, many years ago I had a job modifying some racking in an archive and had to wear a respirator before disturbing any of the paperwork.
