Drummond shaper. I'm guessing roughly 100 years old. There's lots of info on Tony's lathes website. Now I'm tripping over machines but I didn't want to miss purchasing it. The lathe too.Lovely bit of kit any idea which company made it & how long ago ?
That Magnusson stuff is not to bad frankly, I mean it's not the best, but it's way up from the worst.View attachment 394970View attachment 394971
Popped into B&Q for some genuine Hozelock fittings , overtime the yellow plastic spigot end fittings lose a few thou of plastic and start slipping out of the female fittings . giving whoever is close to the failed joint a decent soaking .
Whilst there I decided it was time to buy a full screwdriver set having recently tore some of the tip off a Pozi drive whilst undoing a long hardened turbo screw in some Delrin , not wishing to drop over £32 on a set of green & black ones & so settled for the £22 orange & black Magnusson ones.
Getting home & struggling to open the blister pack I realised I should have got the green & black Whiri ( SP?) as individual pieces , at least I would have been able to touch & feel the tip qualities .The Magnusson are lacking in quality , fit & finish .
There is an amusing but very naughty on the back of the packing card
Top line UK manufacturer...
Seventh line down Made in China
I suppose it is a way to get round the country of origin rules , we buy in as a container full of boxes of unfinished screwdrivers then they get the tips dipped in rubbish black paint , then when dry , packed in UK blister packs & shipped out to Kingfisher owned stores .
This afternoon I put 18 x 45 mm long 5 mm countersunk stainless steel screws in to fix three top end stainless steel wet room grab handles , not impressed at the amount cam out they did , kind of killed then screws in most cases . Popped out to the local Screwfix for some decent cam out resisting pozi tipped driver tips. That Magnusson stuff is not to bad frankly, I mean it's not the best, but it's way up from the worst.
We've got screwdriver sets and socket sets at work from them, it's better or on a par with Berner, but it's not Facom or good lifetime quality stuff, it's o.k. and does the job.
That looks like it could handle a bit of power. This I the one I made maybe 30 years ago.. fabricated the case

A balanced feeder is one reason why I bought this, plus it's twice the quality of Mighty Fine Junk's offerings.I had one in the 1980s, and it worked well on a Balanced feeder. It was handy and wished that I never sold it.. The reason I did sell it was I had an ATU which had meters on it .
Here's another one for the kids. They are not ready for it yet but it will be a lot more "starter lathe" than my m300.
It's got powered feed and a quick change gearbox. Pinnacle CT-918

It's a little bit rough in places but for what I paid and it's intended users (my kids)I can't complain. It's currently missing the drive belt (a tiny section belt by the look of it) and when I get around to looking at it I may replace the single phase motor with 3 phase + VFD as I have several spare units. If anyone has a similar machine I'd be interested to hear from you.Similar to @Windy Miller 's Taiwanese Naerok. Actually a nice little machine it knocks any similar sized Chinese into the dirt.
Yep as @Pete. rightly says, it’s very similar to my Naerok. Quite a nice little lathe actually with plenty of features to keep me occupied! It's a little bit rough in places but for what I paid and it's intended users (my kids)I can't complain. I have a pdf manual somewhere if you’d like a copy?
i never flashed it over, or made the ferrite hot....That looks like it could handle a bit of power.
The SEM one claims power handling of 1kW, but I seriously doubt that. Most owners seem to be of the opinion that 100 or maybe 200W is its limit for safety's sake.
