Last time I was in hospital the guy in the next bed had something exactly like that, bitten on the hand, infection visibly moving up his arm, took a week of IV antibiotics to get it under control.

Yep, spreading up the leg's a Very Bad Sign - may be infected, get to the quack pronto or if you can't get a pointment today get down to A&E sharpish!

As the weather is exceptionally hot today, my Wife asked me to reacquire a fan I had up in the garage. Of course it happened to be out of reach, so what to do without shifting a bunch of stuff. Brainstorm, 
some double backed tape and an extension tool. Happy day !

I've had some nasty bites before in fact had a couple a few weeks back when we down the broads , I will certainly be keeping a close eye on it and it may well be a trip to the walk in center , A doctors appointment ! your having a laugh aren't you , mind tis very hot around where it's red .

Probably a horsefly, nasty critters and the bite often gets infected. Norfolk broads? Whereabouts?

Had a horsefly bite in my teens, arm blew up like a balloon and had to have antibiotics for it, still got a crater in my arm 50 years on... Not QUITE as bad as mate who got a brown recluse spider bite on hols in the USA, though!

Yes very bad, get to a walk-in or A&E as soon as possible. Guy at work was out in his garden barefoot, got bit, got sepsis, nearly died. Lost 5 stone in a couple of weeks.
I hope you're already on the way to see/speak to a doctor.
If you were to phone a GP receptionist and tell them that you've been bitten, and it appears you have an infection progressing up a limb, they would either very quickly find a doctor to phone you, or tell you where to go (which would most likely be A&E/minor injuries).
Guy I worked beside had a bite on this arm one morning, which was very visibly swollen with obvious signs of the infection spreading, but he wasn't too concerned about it other than it was itchy.
I made him phone his GP surgery, and a doctor phoned him back within minutes. He was told to get to the surgery, where the first available doctor would see him. He ended up off sick for two weeks, despite being put on anti-biotics immediately by the doctor.

A mate had something very like that - ended up in hospital for a month, with a big hole in his leg requiring repacking twice daily, and then again via district nurse when he was discharged for quite a long time - cellulitus is not a good thing!
As they got worried they weren't stopping the infection travelling up his leg, they were getting close to firing up the stainless chainsaw to take it off !!

Well on the orders of SHMBO and advice of the forum I went to the local walk in ( after tea of course ) not taking any patients 3-4 hour wait and we close at 10 . so hospital minor injuries pretty much the same they close at 9pm A+E 6-8 hour waiting time
pretty sad state of affairs really and to top it I was in the van so I've now a £12.50 green air zone charge for going into town 
I'll be down at the walk in before it opens at 8 tomorrow ,
