I have been busy the last few days clearing a few sheds and one of them was really good with plenty of bits, Small drawer sets always grab my attention and a schweppes crate with all sorts of bits, But i found a nice solid block of copper soldering iron in there which i used today for soldering a lead join.

Today was a day we will draw a line under.
Dumb customers.

But on a lighter note I did successfully acquire a few bits.



3HP Brigs engine, I got it for spares for a friends mower. With luck the carb will be good.

It was good.
It did work.
It fitted.
It means friend has to mow his lawn now.

I get fed up of not being able to find one when I need one.

The local welding shop only keeps the flat ones. They break too easily for me so these should be perfect.

I like the flat ones better they sharpen up quicker.
Same thing but instead of being 12x12 they are 12x4 or something like that.

i've only ever used tailor's chalk:



mainly because i've got loads of the stuff.
seems the same as welders chalk, but much thinner.

today i parted company with some cash and acquired a couple of boxs of tools etc

these caught my eye



its not very often you find tools marked MADE IN USSR


also anyone know what this is used for


couldnt find a mug so a roll of thread tape for scale

the tools marked made in the USSR are from a LADA toolkit, i have some somewhere ! there was also one of those double ended screwdrivers that you pulled the shaft from the handle and swapped it round so iit was either flat or cross head and a hand lamp and a stirrup pump for inflating tyres

After sorting through some of stuff i got Wednesday i got into the smaller boxes i found a nice local beer bottle opener a catapult handle and what seems to be a brass and wood rope gauge for a company called Wrights rope Ltd from Birmingham, In the larger boxes there was a fair amount of the Black and Decker tools for the drill powered conversions and 2 older type work mates and one called the jobber, I hope it is collectable.

Used to measure the diameter of ropes. Manly ropes made from natural fibres. They used to be calibrated for wet and dry rope. So be careful.
That said I have only ever got my hands on one for dry rope.
